A cat tree earns its space when it suits your cat and your room, not the other way round. The two things worth checking first are height and footprint. A tall tower gives a confident climber somewhere to survey the room, while a compact post suits a smaller flat or an older cat that would rather not leap.

The covering matters too. Sisal posts take the scratching your cat would otherwise aim at the sofa, and they last longer than carpet wrap. If you have a larger or heavier cat, look at the base: a wide, weighted base keeps the whole thing steady when they jump on and off, which is the usual reason a wobbly tree gets abandoned.
